Essential fatty acids are vital in metabolism, formation
of cell walls and tissue repair. They play an important role
in maintaining the health of the heart, liver and brain. Since
the body cannot manufacture EFAs, they must come from the
diet. The most common supplemental sources of essential fatty
acids are fish oils,
but for those wishing to avoid fish products there are other
oils, such as flaxseed and evening primrose oil,
these are are rich sources of essential fatty acids. The fatty acids found in fish oil facilitate the speedy growth and development of the ever changing child’s brain. BBC
