About Hyaluronic Acid (also called Hyaluronan or hyaluronate)
Taken to replace the synovial fluid lost through either injury or arthritis. Solaray Hyaluronic Acid is enteric coated, which helps the capsules survive the stomach acid and pass into the small intestine where it is absorbed. This formula contains Ascorbic Acid to further assist metabolism of Hyaluronic Acid.
Hyaluronic acid (HA, hyaluronan) is a special protein that exists naturally in the body, it is found in greatest concentrations in the synovial fluid of articular joints for lubrication, the vitreous humor (fluid) of the eye, and most abundantly in the skin. As we age, the body produces less Hyaluronic Acid. The joints become stiff and the movement painful, the skin becomes dry and wrinkly.
Hyaluronic Acid plays an important role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cellular function. and because Hyaluronic Acid (Hyaluronan) is found in many tissues of the body, such as skin, cartilage, and the vitreous humour, it is well suited to biomedical applications targeting these tissues. Hyaluronic Acid (Hyaluronan) may also be used to induce tissue healing, notably after cataract surgery. There are also some preliminary clinical studies that suggest oral administration of Hyaluronic Acid has a positive effect on osteoarthritis. [1]
